INFINITE ALBUM REVIEW
Infinite is Eminem’s first album and also his introduction to the world. Marshall Mathers had placed a lot of hope in the release of his debut album, that, unfortunately sold only 1000 copies.
Infinite was produced by Eminem’s fellow D12 member Denaun Porter aka Kon Artis
The major flop of his album nearly lead to Marshall’s suicide in 1997.
A further examination will make the attentive listener understand that the flop of the Infinite album is certainly not due to a lack of lyrical skills: Eminem’s lyrical ability in Infinite is impressing.
The Infinite song is a good example of the great poetic words that came out of this album.
The reasons of Infinite lie elsewhere and if you ask me I’d tell you that the major problem of the album is the lack of technical means and maybe also the lack of good promotion.
Infinite represents Eminem the way he was in his younger years: a young man in search of true love as the song « Searchin» fully reveals it. A young man facing a lot of financial problems and trying to feed his family. When you have been yourself through similar difficulties, you will be able to relate to songs like « It’s ok ». 313 gives us the taste of a « sweet emcee from the 313 ».
« Maxine » also belongs to the well written songs of the album.
Marshall’s sincerity all over Infinite is so touching. But it seems that it wasn’t enough. Despite the huge efforts, he had put into his album, people reproached him to sound like Nas.
The public wanted something else, something biting that Eminem gave them with the Slim Shady EP and the Slim Shady LP.
Although people won’t unanimously agree on Infinite, I’d advice any true Eminem fan to check the album if he hasn’t done it yet- at least for the great lyrics written by Marshall Mathers.
SLIM SHADY EP REVIEW
Have you ever listened to the Slim Shady EP?
No, not the Slim Shady LP. I mean Eminem’s former 10 tracks EP. If you haven’t, you will be able to listen to it and to download the full EP on the following website:
http://www.stimulate-ldt.com/
The Slim Shady EP is indeed a dope album: major hip hop fans won’t be disappointed by Eminem’s brilliant debut work.
The intro leads you into a world of horrorcore: Eminem gets theatened by the devilish character of Slim Shady who asks him to look into the mirror. A terrorized Eminem is confronted to the ill character who opened the doors to his fame.
Be ready for some great entertainment.
“Low Down Dirty” is a well made description of Slim Shady’s dirty world of sex, drugs and violence. The attentive listener will immediatly understand that Slim Shady represents Eminem’s dark side. In fact, Slim Shady is to Eminem what Mr Hyde is to Dr Jekyll, as the lyrics point it out:
“I'm Dr. Hyde and Mr. Jekyll, disrespectful
Hearing voices in my head while these whispers echo
"Murder Murder Redrum"
If you have watched movies like “The Exorcist” and “Amityville”, you will certainly enjoy Eminem’s introduction into Slim Shady’s demonic world.
You will also enjoy Eminem’s ill rhymes and his well made wordplays.
“Murder Murder”- which was, by the way, praised by the Source Magazine- is one of the best songs of the EP. Don’t miss it.
Tupac is followed by Swifty in the chorus, both artists combined give a particularly interesting dimension to the song. The whole song is great gangsta rap where Eminem appears (you guessed it right) as a bad thug.
Many people focus an interest on Eminem’s best known and most played songs. But it is worth taking a look at his underground work. Major Eminem fans and real hip hop lovers will be amazed by the great quality of Eminem’s earlier Slim Shady EP. My advice: if you haven’t done it yet, check it out!
The Infinite song
The Infinite song reveals the creative skills of a talented MC who represents the 313. The Infinite album may have been unsuccessful, but it already shows Eminem’s creativity.
The Infinite song in particular is a well written song. The Infinite album was released in 1996. Eminem’s first album didn’t please a great majority of people, although it is lyrically excellent : in fact Eminem was often accused of sounding like Nas or Jay-Z.
He stated it in the iCast interview, Eminem was about 14 years old when he started rapping and writing his rhymes.
« I was about nine when I started listening to rap. I started rapping, writing my own rhymes about fourteen, fifteen and just kept getting better at it. »
Which proves that Marshall has great experience behind him. He’s also known as a bookworm who is capable of spending hours reading the dictionary in order to find some words to rhyme. Even his biggests opponents admit that Marshall has a sophisticated rhyming style.
Eminem has managed to impress the Bass brothers for his great rhyming ability since he was 15. Maybe the Infinite song isn’t technically as good as his later songs, but the rhymes are impressing, though.
Watching the scene of 8 Mile where you can see Jimmy Rabbit composes « Lose Yourself » makes you travel into the mind of the composer of the Infinite song. You got the same impression of pen and paper having a chain reaction when you see Rabbit using each corner of the paper sheet, the whole paper sheet is full of writings.
Eminem talks about his writing process in his former iCast interview :
« No, my writing process is basically, I don't try to sit down and think of shit. I let the thoughts pop into my head, and then I write them down. I let it come natural. It's not something that I try to search for. I gotta let the stuff-- throughout the course of my day, I might find like six to twelve ideas. And then just jot them down and at the end of the week or the end of two weeks or whatever, I stack my ideas up and then I write a rhyme. »
Never has it been that easy to travel through the mind of a lyrical genius than with Eminem. Because he takes you with him during his journey, he wants you to feel what he feels.
At the time Eminem wrote his Infinite song, he was in competition with other rappers who didn’t have half of his skills and who were successful.
Those frustrations are also visible in « If I had » :
« …Tired of other rappers who ain't bringin half the skill as me
saying they wasn't feeling me when nobody's as ill as me… »
You could barely deny the beauty of Eminem’s rhymes when you read those lines of « Infinite » :
"I travel through your mind until you spine like siren drills
I'm sliming grills of roaches, with sprayed on disinfectants
With some ex rappers till their spinal column disconnects
We disinfect then check the monologue, turn your system up
Twist them up, and indulge in the marijuana smoke
This is the season for noise pollution contamination
Examination of more cartoons than animation
My lamination of narration
Hit's a snare and bass of track fucked up rapper interrogation
When I declare invasion, there ain't no time to be stare and gazing
I turn the stage into a barren wasteland...
I'm Infinite..."
Eminem has always been a fighter who was determined to win the battles against his opponents. He knows that he cannot fail when he invades the stage :
“When I declare invasion, there ain't no time to be stare and gazing
I turn the stage into a barren wasteland...
I'm Infinite...”
Eminem knows by instinct how to captivate his audience. All the people who have seen him performing know that he’s got a lot of charisma. He manages to captivate a huge audience, to make them feel the way he feels. He brings some magic into his show.
His strength as a brilliant MC is expressed in the second verse of the song :
“Bust it, I let the beat commence so I can beat the sense of your elite
defense
I got to meet the fence fruit was stompin at your feet to rinse
I greet intensive ladies, I spoil all your fans
I foil plans and leave fluids leaking like oil bands
My coil hands around this microphone lethal
One thought in my cerebral is deeper then a Jeep full of people
MC's are feeble, I came to cause some pandemonium
Battle a band of phony MC's and stand the only one
Imitator, Intimidator, Stimulator, Simulator of data, Eliminator
There's never been a greater since the burial of Jesus
Fuck around and catch all of the venereal diseases
My thesis will smash a stereo to pieces
My accapella releases plastic masterpieces through telekinesis
And eases you mentally, gently, sentimentally, instrumentally
With entity, dementedly meant to be Infinite...”
The chorus is full of humor. The MC who was sentenced for “murdering some instruments” will be caught killing the alphabet in the Slim Shady LP:
« I can't rap anymore - I just murdered the alphabet… » (Still Don’t Give A Fuck »)
The only difference is that he won’t show any sign of repentance in his next album, since the creation of Slim Shady...
Eminem’s metaphors make you penetrate in the mind of a great poet. Much more extraordinary is his use of similar sounding words and the way he assembles them:
“No one is speacialer, My skill is intergalactical
I get cynical at a fool then I send a crew back to school
I never packed a tool or acted cool, it wasn't practical
I'd rather led a tactful, tractical, track for your fancy
In fact I can't see, or can't imagine...”
The Infinite song lyrics may be less known, even among Eminem’s fans, but they deserve a lot of admiration. They are well written. It is difficult to explain why the Infinite album didn’t sell well. But the main reasons cannot been found in the quality of the lyrics. Maybe the sound quality wasn’t that good and its unsuccess must probably due to technical reasons. In the meantime, Eminem has, of course, improved a lot of things. But who could deny he had great lyricals skills since the beginning?
"Infinite"
Oh yeah, this is Eminem baby, back up in that motherfucking ass
One time for your mother fucking mind, we represent the 313
You know what I'm saying?, cause they don't know shit about this
For the 9-6
Verse 1:
Ayo, my pen and paper cause a chain reaction
To get your brain relaxin, cause they be actin maniac in action
A brainiac in fact son, you mainly lack attraction
You looking zany whack with just a fraction of my tracks spun
My rhyming skills got you climbing hills
I travel through your mind until you spine like siren drills
I'm sliming grills of roaches, with sprayed on disinfectants
With some ex rappers till their spinal column disconnects
We disinfect then check the monologue, turn your system up
Twist them up, and indulge in the marijuana smoke
This is the season for noise pollution contamination
Examination of more cartoons than animation
My lamination of narration
Hit's a snare and bass of track fucked up rapper interrogation
When I declare invasion, there ain't no time to be stare and gazing
I turn the stage into a barren wasteland...
I'm Infinite
Chorus:
You heard of hell well I was sent from it
I went to it's surface and sentenced for murdering instruments
Now I'm trying to repent from it
But when I hear the beat I'm tempted to make another attempt at it...
I'm Infinite
Verse 2:
Bust it, I let the beat commence so I can beat the sense of your elite
defense
I got to meet the fence fruit was stompin at your feet to rinse
I greet intensive ladies, I spoil all your fans
I foil plans and leave fluids leaking like oil bands

Chorus:
You heard of hell well I was sent from it
I went to it's surface and sentenced for murdering instruments
Now I'm trying to repent from it
But when I hear the beat I'm tempted to make another attempt at it...
I'm Infinite
Verse 3:
Man I got evidence I'm never dense and I been clever ever since
My residence was hesitant to do some shit that represents the M-O
So I'm assuming all responsibility
Cause there's a monster will in me that always wants to kill MC's
Mic messaler, slamming like a wrestler
Here to make a mess of a lyric smuggling embezzler
No one is speacialer, My skill is intergalactical
I get cynical at a fool then I send a crew back to school
I never packed a tool or acted cool, it wasn't practical
I'd rather led a tactful, tractical, track for your fancy
In fact I can't see, or can't imagine
A man who ain't a lover of beats or a fan of scratching
This is for my family, the kid who had a cameo on my last jam
Plus the man who never had a plan B
Be all you can be, cause once you make an instant hit
I'm tense to be tempted when I see the sins my friends commit...
I'm Infinite
Chorus:
You heard of hell well I was sent from it
I went to it's surface and sentenced for murdering instruments
Now I'm trying to repent from it
But when I hear the beat I'm tempted to make another attempt at it...
I'm Infinite
You heard of hell well I was sent from it
I went to it's surface and sentenced for murdering instruments
Now I'm trying to repent from it
But when I hear the beat I'm tempted to make another attempt at it...
I'm Infinite
Murder, Murder
“Murder Murder” is a well written track from the Slim Shady EP. This song reveals Eminem’s great writing skills.
If you ever doubted it, you will realize that Eminem is a great story teller.
Tupac and Swifty introduce us to the song and let us penetrate in a murderer’s sick state of mind that is impersonated by Eminem:
“All I see is murder murder, my mind state - [2Pac]
Makes it too late for cops in tryin' to stop the crime rate - [Swift]
All I see is murder murder, my mind state
Murder, murder, murder, and kill, kill, kill!”
Slim Shady is ready to cause some damages to society. He starts murdering a cop and theatens a lady fo money. He talks about how money can corrupt a man in a very sarcastic way Slim Shady lovers enjoy very much:
“See I'm a nice man but money turned me to Satan
I'm thirsty for this green so bad I'm dehydratin'
Hurry up with the cash bitch, I got a ride waitin'
Shot a man twice in the back when he tried escapin'”
There’s no happy end for the woman who’s just been carjacked by Slim:
“Money from the safe in the back, stepped in wavin' the Mac
Cooperate and we can operate and save an attack
This bitch tried escapin' the jack
Grabbed her by the throat, it's murder she wrote
You barely heard a word as she choked
It wasn't nuttin' for her to be smoked
But I slammed her on her back 'til her vertebrae broke
Just then the pigs bust in yellin' "Freeze!"
But I'm already wanted for sellin' keys
And bunch of other felonies from A to Z like spellin' bees
So before I dropped to the ground and fell on knees
I bust shots, they bust back
Hit the square in the chest, he wasn't wearin' a vest”
The criminal tale goes on in the second verse. No happy ending for the victims and even the bad criminal gets injured in the story.
He’s a wanted man who caused a lot of damages and who eventually surrenders to the cops.
The conclusion is the funniest part, because Eminem rejects any kind of responsibility on music: gangsta rap appears to be the main responsible.
You will enjoy the rythm and the words of “Murder Murder” which picture Eminem’s brilliance very well.
Lyrics
[CHORUS]
All I see is murder murder, my mind state - [2Pac]
Makes it too late for cops in tryin' to stop the crime rate - [Swift]
All I see is murder murder, my mind state
Murder, murder, murder, and kill, kill, kill!
[2x]
Left the keys in the van, with a gat in each hand
Went up in Eastland and shot a policeman
Fuck a peace plan of citizen bystands
But shit is in my hands, here's your life span
For what your life's worth this money is twice than
Grab a couple grand and live a nice land
See I'm a nice man but money turned me to Satan
I'm thirsty for this green so bad I'm dehydratin'
Hurry up with the cash bitch, I got a ride waitin'
Shot a man twice in the back when he tried escapin'
I want the whole pie, I won't be denied nathan
Maybe I need my head inside straightened
Brain contemplatin', clean out the register
Dip before somebody catches ya
Or gets ya description an' sketches ya
The connection was the prime suspect
But I ain't set to flee the scene of the crime just yet
Cuz I got a daughter to feed
And $200 ain't enough to water the seed
The best thing would be for me to leave Taco Bell an' hit up Chess King
And have the lady at the desk bring
Money from the safe in the back, stepped in wavin' the Mac
Cooperate and we can operate and save an attack
This bitch tried escapin' the jack
Grabbed her by the throat, it's murder she wrote
You barely heard a word as she choked
It wasn't nuttin' for her to be smoked
But I slammed her on her back 'til her vertebrae broke
Just then the pigs bust in yellin' "Freeze!"
But I'm already wanted for sellin' keys
And bunch of other felonies from A to Z like spellin' bees
So before I dropped to the ground and fell on knees
I bust shots, they bust back
Hit the square in the chest, he wasn't wearin' a vest
[CHORUS 2x]
Left the house, pullin' out the drive backin' out
Need a backin' out this lady's Jag started blackin' out
Pulled the Mac-10 out, stuck it in her face
Shut ya yackin' mouth before I blow the brain from out the back ya scalp
Drug her by her hair, smacked her up
Thinkin' fuck it, mug her while you're there, jacked her up
Stole her car, made a profit
Grabbed the tape from out the deck and offed it out the window
Like the girl on Set It Off did
Jetted off kid, stole the whip, now I'm a criminal
Drove in thru somebody's yard, dove into they swimmin' pool
Climbed out and collapsed on the patio
I made it out alive but I'm injured badly though
Parents screamin': "Son, go in and call the police
Tell 'em there's a crazy man disturbing all of the peace!"
Tried to stall him at least long enough to let me leap up
Run in they crib and at least leave with some little cheap stuff
Actin' like they never seen nobody hit a nick before
Smashed the window, grabbed the Nintendo 64
When they sell out in stores the price triples
I ran up the block jumpin' kids on tricycles
And colliding with an 80-year old lady with groceries
There goes the cheese, eggs, milk and Post Toasties
Stood up and started to see stars
Too many siren sounds, it seemed like a thousand police cars
Barely escaped, must-a been some dumb luck
Jumped up and climbed the back of a movin' dump truck
But I think somebody seen me maybe
Plus I lost the damn Nintendo and I must-a dropped the Beanie Baby
Fuck it I give up, I'm surrounded in blue suits
Came out with a white flag hollerin' "TRUCE TRUCE!"
Surrendered my weapon to cops
Wasn't me! It was the gangsta rap and the peppermint Schnopps
LOW,DOWN,DIRTY
Listening to “Low, Down, Dirty” from the Slim Shady EP will invite you into a restricted and dangerous area.
Slim Shady is coming to haunt Eminem and he invites you in his crazy world:
"I had this whole Slim Shady concept of being two different people, having two different sides of me. One of them I was trying to let go, and I looked at the mirror and smashed it. That was the whole intro of the Slim Shady EP. Slim Shady was coming to haunt me…" –
A crazy world of personality split: the shady world of Eminem’s alter ego.
You will enjoy Eminem and Redman’s talents combined.
In fact, the second track of the Slim shady EP pictures Slim Shady’s introduction to the world.
Eminem asks the sarcastic question in the first verse:
"How in the fuck can Eminem and Shady be related?"
Eminem fans already know the answer: Slim Shady is Eminem’s sick side, he is just some evil and sick character who represents Eminem’s forbidden thoughts.
That’s also why Eminem fans will rarely be chocked by Slim Shady’s statements.
Of course, Slim Shady’s ill character has managed to piss off many persons who would take his statements seriously. Fiction and reality come close to each other, but the listener will understand easily that coming into Slim Shady’s world is like watching a science fiction movie. You will enjoy the “Illiterate, illigitimate shit spitter...”.
You may ask: “Why the hell does Slim Shady go on speaking about Margot Kidder?”
Remember that Slim Shady’s world is all about madness. Margot Kidder is not only mentioned because she has played in The Amityville Horror, but also because she suffered from paranoia and at this time, she had created her own mental world. You will learn more about the actress on the following website:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0452288/bio
I might be wrong, but the personality split Eminem talks about has not only to do with Eminem and Slim Shady, but it also seems to represent a young white man who wishes he was Black, trying to imitate his favorite rappers like Dr Dre. Marshall never denied the fact that he is white.
But when he suddenly looks at himself in the mirror, wearing some black glasses and sinking his lips he becomes Ice Cube from NWA. He becomes a black man for several minutes, because he impersonates his favorite hero:
“"When I was 9 years old, my uncle put me on to the Breakin' soundtrack. The first rap song I ever heard was Ice-T, 'Reckless.' From L.L. to the Fat Boys, and all that shit, I was fascinated. When L.L. first came out with 'I'm Bad', I wanted to do it, to rhyme. Standing in front of the mirror, I wanted to be like L.L.”
You will also enjoy Redman’s lines that are fullfilled with vicious allusions to drugs and to sex:
“Fuck it, maybe I'm a bum
But I was put on this earth to make your baby mama cum
So what I'm on is way beyond the bomb or any alcoholic beverage
Losing all of my leverage
Went up inside the First National Bank broke, and left rich
Walking bio-hazard causing wreckage
Smoked out like ?
Band just making my neck itch
What the fuck? Gimme the tech bitch
You just lost your tip, there's a pubic hair in my breakfast
Got shit popping off like bottle cap tips
Get your cap peeled like the dead skin of your mama's chapped lips
Slap hips, support domestic violence
Beat your bitches ass while your kids stare in silence
I'm just joking, is Dirty Dozen's really dust smoking?
If all your shit's missing, than probably one of us broke in...”
In the third verse, Slim Shady starts some wordplays and introduces you his well known world of drugs and medication:
"Slim Shady, his tape is dope, I love it
It's rugged, but he needs to quit talking all that drug shit."
It was predicted by a medic
I'd grow to be an addicted diabetic
Living off liquid Triametic
Pathetic, but I don't think this headache's ever vanishing
Panicing, I think I might have just took too much Anasin...”
“Low, Down, Dirty” is an interesting song that fully distinguishes between Eminem and Slim Shady. For those who doubted it, it makes a clear difference between Eminem and his sick character, Slim Shady: Slim Shady is to Eminem what Mr Hyde is to Dr Jekyll.
It’s a pleasure to travel through the sick mind of Slim Shady who will never stop haunting Eminem and who will make you enjoy his clever wordplays.
You will find my personal reviews of the Slim Shady, the Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show. Hopefully, I will be able to add a review for Encore very soon!
Slim Shady LP review This album ,which was released in 1999, relates real life dramas along with fictional murdering and rape fantasies. Eminem talks about drugs, alcohol and violence. It also refers to a period where Eminem was facing a lot of financial and personal problems.
The "Slim Shady LP" gives birth to Eminem's alter ego who is a mad character, a psychopath killer. Slim Shady also represents our hidden thoughts, each person's dark side.
"Brain Damage" is a mixture of autobiographical facts (it's the story of Marshall Mathers getting bullied by D'Angelo Bailey at school) and fictional facts (like his retaliation). The discerning listener will understand easily that the killing and murdering fantasies are not serious.
"'97 Bonnie and Clyde" is a fantasy about killing Kim. Some sensitive people may be shocked by the lyrics of Bonnie and Clyde, but they should try to understand the context in which it was written: Kim had dumped Marshall and she tried to separate him from Hailie. This song is a retaliation and Hailie whose voice is used in the track, is his accomplice.
If you have ever experienced financial and personal difficulties, you will probably be able to relate to "If I had" and to "Rock Bottom". "Rock Bottom" is a song that moves me deeply and reminds me of a very dark period of my life.
"Rock Bottom" is the most realistic song of the whole album. It was written the night Eminem attempted suicide. He addresses to people who have comfortable lives and who don't realize the hard conditions of living of poor people. This dedication is sarcastic. Usually those people who live so comfortably are blind to pain and misery.
When you've hit the bottom, youeve been humbled to the point that you know "we are all going the same way when we die". You are much more closer to this metaphysical truth. "Guilty conscience" which was co-written with Dr. Dre, envisions the reality of the American society.
As you probably all know, Eminem doesn't mind offending you.
But if he did: Good! Cuz he still "doesn't give a fuck"!
Review of the Marshall Mathers LP From all his albums, the Marshall Mathers Lp has raised the most controversy. Eminem's rhymes have shocked a lot of people . Among them, the GLAAD (Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) who have spoken against his lyrics. Eminem has also been protested against by the same association. The whole controversy can be summarized in three points (in the Glaad's point of view):
-the inserability of Eminem's music and his violent lyrics
-the refusal of Eminem, Interscope Records and Universal Music to take personal responsability for the lyrical content of the Marshall Mathers LP
-the Grammy nominations: on the 21st of February 2001, they protested against his nomination in L.A.
The big problem is always the misinterpretation of Eminem's lyrics. The GLAAD in particular took exerpts of his lyrics to make a real monster of Mr Mathers. If he really was that homophobic, why would he have performed "Stan" with Elton John?
I am an adult woman who enjoys very much tracks like "Kill You". I don?t feel insulted nor humiliated by those lyrics. Why? Simply because I know Eminem is joking during the whole song.He adds "I'm just playing ladies, you know I love you" at the end of his song. Why did the Glaad and other conservative people just ignore this sentence?
To me, Eminem's lyrics are not more dangerous than watching "Scary Movie" or playing some violent game on the playstation.
Slim Shady is a fictioncSlim Shady is mean ,violent in his words, but he is NOT Marshall Mathers.
Like he expresses it himself, Eminem's music is his therapy. "Kill You" helped him to work out his problems with his mom as well as the song "Kim" helped him to express his problems with his ex wife Kim. Moreover, the song "Kim" is a deep expression of (unhappy ) love.
Among the provocative songs, you can count "The Real Slim Shady" where Eminem disses people like Christina Aguilera for her personal comments about Kim and the content of Eminem's lyrics. In this fake pop music world, Eminem has the honesty to show when he doesn?t like somebody.
"The Real Slim Shady" has also shocked a lot of people because of its sexual content. A Colorado radio station has been condammned to pay 7000 $ for playing the uncensored version of "The Real Slim Shady". Mtv also censors words like "clitoris" in that song as if it wasn't a part of the human body.
"The Way I Am" expresses Eminem's pressures on the way to the top.
In his song "Who knew", Eminem points out that he is not the one to be held responsible for some teenagers? crazy behavior. It's the parents' responsability to take care of their kids. And for the parents who are really worried about the Marshall Mathers Lp's lyrical content, clean versions do exist. Why not buy them?
Eminem is all about Freedom of Speech. People shouldn't deny him the right to say what he wants, even if they strongly disagree with him.
The First Amendment of the American Constitution allows the Freedom of Speech to any citizen. Marshall Mathers has the right to use it, and even to be politically incorrect.
Review of The Eminem Show While the Marshall mathers Lp is known as the most provocative of Eminem albums, the Eminem show is getting more personal and also more introspective.
Eminem exposes his life like a show to his public. It's like a total exposure, something he wants to share with his public.
Some of his songs like 'Cleaning Out My Closet","Soldier","Saying Goodbye To Hollywood","Hailie's song'' are personal. Some others like 'White America","Square Dance' do raise political debates.
Eminem also targets his enemies like Moby in his album.
'Cleaning Out My Closet' is an emotional and moving song. This songs helps Marshall to work out his hatred for his parents. Often misunderstood for the hate he feels towards his own mom, his hatred is justified, though. Debbie emotionaly abused her son, shefs also responsible of his drug addiction: she put him on ''ritalin"( which is a medication for hyperactive kids) when he was little.
Woul you forgive your mom if she said she wished you dead? I guess the answer is no.
Moreover,if we take a deeper look at ''Cleaning Out My Closet", we clearly understand that this song has not been written to express selfish views. It has also been written to prevent from children abuse.
This song helps many young people who come from disfunctional families to work out their problems with their parents and to express the rage they feel inside. Hailie song is a beautiful hymn of fatherly love and an expression of Eminem real side.
According to a new survey, Eminem is ''more truthful than President George W. Bush''. How is that possible? Simply because the youth is fed up with empty political speeches. Eminem clearly shows the hypocrisy of politicians. The assassination of Dick Cheney in the ''Without Me'' video is a symbol for freedom of speech.
Eminem fights for the right to say '' something you might not like''("Square Dance''). He doesn't rap to please people, he speaks his mind.He is an engaged artist.
The ''Eminem Show'' is excellent. It reveals the mind of a genius, as Eminem expresses it so well in ''My Dad's Gone Crazy":
"My songs can make you cry, take you by surprise at the same time, can make you dry your eyes with the same rhyme/see what you're seein' is a genius at work, which to me isn't work, so it's easy to misinterpret it at first''
Eminem masters his art.
If you haven't done it yet, go buy the album!
ENCORE album review
Eminem's newest album « Encore » is the follow up of « The Eminem Show ». His most recent work is lead by the hand of a master from the beginning to the end. It reveals a more matured artist whose songs reflect a very sensitive and emotional side fulfilled with some sarcasms and parodies of the world of pop.
Other targets? Yes. Who? President Bush. Eminem is definitely engaged in his fight against Bush's policy, that appears in Mosh.
Curtains Up. Ready for a new Eminem Show, part II?
Ok, Eminem will shoot his verses and offer you a flashback to his early childhood years with the second track « Evil Deeds ».
The listener will understand under which unstable conditions Marshall made his first steps. The song is very emotional despite the whole irony that goes with it. It will take you back to the early 70's at the time Debbie just broke up with her husband and decided to leave her son at his aunt Edna and uncle Edmond Charles' home: an easy way to get rid of her son and to be free for some adventures with her numerous boyfriends. Debbie's behavior and her absence have obviously left some deep wounds into Marshall's soul. The demons of the past are still present and sometimes come to haunt his current life. Many people don't understand that wealth isn't a remedy to such trauma. In fact it is very difficult to handle the wounds left inside of us because of our parents' behavior, particularly when you come from a dysfunctional family such as Marshall's. « Evil Deeds » has something deep inside. It is moving and lets us fully understand that fame and fortune have increased Marshall's pain. It is like a never ending circle…and the curtain never falls. This song is moving. Again, the brilliant artist managed to make the listener feel his deepest emotions.
« Never Enough » is a brilliant Nate Dogg and 50 Cent collaboration that is really worth listening to. It is great hip hop that nobody should miss.
« Yellow Brick Road » takes you back to 8 Mile, to a story that only Marshall could tell you the right way with a full amount of details. « Yellow Brick Road » is also a fist against the Source magazine who dared accusing Marshall of racism so many times. How could they dare talking about a typical Detroit context that they didn't even know? Marshall takes you back to a time where he get his ass kicked because he didn't have the right skin color on the way to Kim's house. Back to a period where white emcees were despised by black rappers. Back to the time he met Proof and had to prove his lyrical ability. Back to 1989, where black and white community lived great tensions. Back to the time Eminem dated this black girl because of whom he wrote some rhymes he didn't even mean. Rhymes placed out of their context by Benzino's crew and used in order to break his career.
« Like Toy Soldiers » explains how Eminem became involved in hip hop beefs that he would probably have avoided if he could have done it. Because 50 Cent was signed to Shady Records, the war with Irv Gotti's clan was signed. Ja Rule worsened this war by putting Hailie's name in a song.
Marshall has been a great contributor to hip hop culture and he doesn't like to be involved in bloody hip hop wars. The sincerity of this song is touching.
No contest Mosh is the best song of the whole album. Mosh is a total engagement against Bush's worthless war policy. A strong and powerful song and a lyrical bomb is dropped on the White House and will rally a lot of people who want peace in this world. Mosh might be anti Bush, but unlike many conservative people's opinion , the powerful song can be called a patriotic act in favor of democracy.
Besides Bush, Eminem's other targets are well known pop stars such as Michael Jackson and Madonna who get ridiculed in Just Lose It. Lyrically, I am used to better texts from Marshall, but the song is funny and the video that goes with the first single of Encore will make you laugh crazy.
Rain Man , Big Weenie and My First single are funny and cool songs.
Another song that is really touching and worth listening to is Mockinbird, a touching ode to Hailie. In this song, Eminem is trying to explain Kim's whereabouts to Hailie and Alaina (Hailie's cousin who's been adopted by Marshall and who also lives with him). Again, you will probably be moved by the touching words of a dedicated father for his daughter.
« One Shot 2 Shots », a song that includes Eminem's group, D12, is also worth listening to.
The albums concludes with « One Last Time » an entertaining Eminem, 50 Cent and Dr Dre trio. As the show ends, Eminem surprises the crowd with hiding a pistol behind his back shoots himself and…murders his Slim Shady persona.
Curtains fall. End of the CD. End of the Story…for now.
Weaknesses of the CD
I think that I owe Eminem and my readers an objective point of view, that's why I will also focus on the weak points of Marshall Mathers' Encore:
_ The songs about Kim don't sound real at all, in complete opposition to « I Love You More » which is an authentic and spicy love ballad. « Puke » is rather disgusting and frankly, I don't think that « vomiting sounds » was a real great idea :it amplifies the weakness of a rather lyrical poor song.
Same for « Crazy In Love »: for the first time, I had the unpleasant impression that Eminem didn't sound real. The lyrics and the beats are awful.
- « Ass Like That » is probably the worst song of Eminem's whole career. The weird accent he takes adds to the weakness of the song that it intended to be funny, but that didn't manage to make me laugh. Sorry, Marshall, but I gotta be honest about it.
-Never Enough ,which is a real good song, gives the impression to have been cut before the end.
- There is only one D12 song in the whole album. There could have been more D12 participation in Encore.
- Another weak point of « Encore » needs to be noticed: while the album begins with an introspective, serious note and real good songs, Eminem sometimes spoils the efforts he put in his very valuable songs by childish fart and vomiting sounds. Which he should avoid as a grown man and a respected hip hop artist.
My overall rating of Eminem's brand new CD is 8.5 out of 10 but it could have been 9.5 or 10/10 if Eminem had removed some weak tracks out of his album. My criticism isn't intented to be negative towards Eminem (I am a huge fan and he can be sure of my unconditional support, always), but rather for him to avoid the weak points mentioned in his next album.
Globally, Encore is great work. People who have appreciated The Eminem Show will probably love Encore as well. Eminem came up with some new stuff and handled most of his songs very well.
An album that is definitely worth buying.
The murder of Slim Shady (and of the listeners haha...)
Little picture story
Slim Shady, Eminem's evil side is dead...this pic is creepy and I admit that I'm scared lol
The murder of Slim Shady
The end of the Encore album and the recent scans of the Encore album reveal Eminem's intentions to destroy the evil alter ego he had created in 1997- for ever. Slim Shady passed away recently and he was even symbolically put into a coffin:

Listening to The Eminem Show and to Encore is like going to the theater or to the mall. Eminem has created an ingenious scenario that ends up in a collective drama.
Picture a huge mass of people from different backgrounds and ages coming to enjoy a great and entertaining show. Picture Eminem looking at himself into the mirror before entering on stage…
He isn't feeling so well today…
Imagine one of the greatest shows you have ever participated to…imagine Marshall showing some signs of craziness in the middle of the show and cocking a gun…imagine all of a sudden Eminem in the skin of a bad mass murderer. You all had a great show and now it is time to say goodbye…
Marshall will say goodbye to the crowd of his fans in an original way. In fact, he'll get rid of them, he'll shoot at them and kill them . Bang Bang… One shot…two shots…blood is spilling everywhere.
The spectacle is turning into people's worst nightmare. You can hear some of them crying while some others are falling onto the floor…Oh my God ,what's happening? Everybody's lying on the floor. Marshall, what have you done? You ‘ve taken your fans last breath.
So the media were right about you? Just a criminal, a bad guy, nothing else but a bad guy from Detroit.
What now?
You have no other choice but killing the alter ego who created so much damage to you…in a desperate attempt to become what he once was, Marshall points a pistol at himself…and decides to destroy Slim Shady.
Eminem wanted to destroy his evil side for good. He now leaves us with the regular guy Marshall Mathers and Eminem, his nicer alter ego and stage name.
The message is clear. Eminem's music is taking a new direction. Marshall Mathers will surprise us in his next album. Encore is just the last chapter of a former story…the story of a bad character named Slim Shady who just passed away.
Eminem's scenario was astute, but some bad intentioned people might interpret it as an invitation to self destruction and suicide. The final episode of Encore is in no way intented to influence young people to commit suicide. It is just the final episode of a show. Clever people will be intelligent enough not to misinterpret Eminem's intentions. And to the persons who manage to see something bad in Eminem's way of telling this story: get a sense of humor, for Goodness sake!
You will be able to watch some photos of” Slim Shady's murder” on the latest Encore scans:
